The Uberman Sleep Schedule

Project Type

Fiction

Date

April 2021

This story is about an expat student in Italy struggling to write while experimenting with a bizarre sleep schedule. It was inspired by a combination of experiences: a trip I took to Italy, self-improvement practices I was doing at a time while I had a busy schedule, and me reading about the uberman sleep schedule. The story won Concordia's English Department's Award in Fiction, paying $500 and getting published in the school's magazine. The judge, Melissa Bull, said, "the text is contemporary and playful and intentionally wrestles with a reader's expectations of what a story should be. 'The Uberman Sleep Schedule' is a formally compelling and excellently executed short story whose author shows incredible promise."
The story reads much better as a PDF, so I invite you to read the story through the link to the left.
